Yum! Brands is one of the world’s largest restaurant companies, operating as KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, with over 41,000 restaurants in more than 125 countries and territories. With plans for significant growth as well as roll out concepts in new countries, Yum! recognized the limits of the point solutions they utilized in the past, and required a scalable solution that supported the successful acquisition and management of store information as well as the ability to consolidate insights to facilitate and inform the growth of their global brands.
As a global company facing all the opportunities and challenges inherent in international growth, Yum! was dealing with disparate process in different markets. They supported a number of tools for their store development process, including nine mapping systems and a 15 year old project management system whose only function was providing dates to the leadership team, when all the actual heavy lifting was still being managed in Excel. Additionally, individual markets were purchasing their own datasets, with no guidelines or standards to follow.
This all added up to inefficient processes and a technology infrastructure that would not meet their evolving needs. Yum!, recognizing current systems limited their concept growth, spent two- years attempting to build a custom solution to address their issues – only to realize they were still very far from meeting the organization’s needs.
